Medications
A medication (or medicine) is a drug used to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent disease. The main types of medicines:
- Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. These medications do not require a prescription from a health provider and can be purchased at pharmacies, convenience, and grocery stores.
- Prescription medicines. These medications require a prescription from a doctor or a licensed health care professional.
- Complementary medicines – these are commonly known as traditional or alternative medicines. They may include vitamins, minerals, herbs, and aromatherapy products. They are available without a prescription.
